Hebrews
5:1-10. Every high priest chosen from among mortals is put in charge of things
pertaining to God on their behalf…2: (as a priest) he is able to deal gently
with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself is subject to weakness…5: So
also Christ did not glorify himself in becoming a high priest…
All of these verses seem to be reminding us that
regardless of our position or station in life, we are still flawed human beings
and should always maintain humility. Even Christ, who was perfect, did not
glorify himself. We may have gifts such as talents, intelligence, beauty,
perseverance, or financial success. But we didn’t receive them because we
deserved them or because we are any better than anyone else. They were given to
us by the grace and love of God. Therefore, conceit and smug superiority should
have no place in our lives. We must never forget the source of our gifts and
that all glory belongs to God. With grateful humility thank Him for all the blessings
he has bestowed and, in turn, serve Him by reaching out with love and
compassion to those less fortunate than ourselves.
