The Legislature is a most interesting experience. Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve heard some pretty outrageous statements from people who professed to be Christian. Those statements were so at odds to my belief and faith journey that I started to wonder if I could claim to be Christian. I believe that the observance of Lent draws us to examine ourselves more closely and challenges us to be more aware of our surroundings. The Holy Spirit abounds in the most unexpected places. As the state Senate and House members debated the merits of the marriage equality bill, everyone present were in fact amazed. The dialogue was thoughtful, respectful and civilized. To a person, the quote of the day was, ‘We have never seen anything like this!”
